### X tutorial (English)

X Str8ts have an additional constraint: the diagonals A1-J9 and J1-A9 are treated like rows and columns, i.e., digits must not repeat within a diagonal, and digits must form straights within compartments separated by black cells. Numerous X Str8ts have been posted (including one weekly by kst on www...

### Solution/discussion of is.gd/kst_655_X

This was another fun&tricky one! Here's what I could come up with. The part in {squiggly brackets} isn't needed in hindsight, but it does make the solution easier IMHO. I'm curious what others find! * C: naked quintuplet 56789 / hidden quartet 1234 * 5-fish 2 12789, which falls into place immedi...

### Re: Solution/discussion of 'extreme' puzzle #654

Thanks for checking, Cosmanita! Care to elaborate how you use Setti 1? I don't find much use for it, other than speed up the end-game. But I may be overlooking something nifty...

### Solution/discussion of 'extreme' puzzle #654

Not an easy one, for sure! Here's the best solution I could come up with: * Setti 2 @ A * We have (unusually) 5678 missing from a row, each. This will keep coming back. * CE col 5: E5=3478, F5=178, B5=1238 * Setti 4/5 chain: B5!=8. Otherwise -- 5 in col 4 -- J7=9 (via F7) -- EF1=87 (single 8 in E) -...

### Re: Solution/discussion of is.gd/kst_652_B

I've had another go at the puzzle, trying to find an easier solution. The one major thing I could find is that HC2 (B5!=3) isn't needed. That eliminates the lengthiest chain from the solution. The HP45 towards the end isn't needed, either (although it's pretty obvious at that late stage, so why not ...

### Re: Solution/discussion of is.gd/4_days_left_2022_str8t

no, this after basic elimination, 7 is still present at F3 You're right, of course. Just have to think one notch deeper than I did. Thanks a lot! Same thing for the 8-in-col 1 UR: I did realize A1!=8 (UR). But that could be forced out via col 1 or row A, so I stopped thinking about it. One notch de...

### Re: Solution/discussion of is.gd/4_days_left_2022_str8t

Wow, Klaus, this is the foil solution! Mine was the sledgehammer
To be sure: this is after eliminating 7 from F3, right? After the second UR, we can indeed trim down compartment ranges to the point of having rich fishing grounds. Really beautiful!

### Solution/discussion of is.gd/4_days_left_2022_str8t

This is an interesting one! After standard elimination, we are left with numerous undecided, interacting hi/lo's and, to me, no obvious way forward. Ben (in the 'extreme' str8ts discussion of week 652) points out 2-fish 8 25 and C-H1 must contain 8 (UR A1), also CE A9!=3. Let me throw in H8!=9 (UR)....

### Solution/discussion of is.gd/kst_652_B

This was a difficult one! * AB1 hi (789): otherwise NQ 1234 (all 4 digits required in box 1), conflict with B-Setti col 3 * NQ 6789 box 1; 5 req in AC2: eliminate from rest of col * C3=6 (B power) * B6!=37 because D5!=37 (B power) * 7 is required in either D7 or D9. This will keep coming back. * F-J...
